Hundreds of gamers from around Birmingham headed to Digbeth today to be among the first gamers in the country to try Nintendo’s latest console, the Nintendo Switch.

The sold-out event, which started Friday and finishes on Sunday (12th February) allowed gamers two hours to try some of the consoles upcoming titles including Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe, Arms, 1-2 Switch, Snipperclips and the heavily anticipated Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Jamie Cox, 20, who waited in line for an hour and a half to try the system said:

“I’ve been a Nintendo fan since I was 4 and a gaming fan since then and going to events like this is great, especially when Birmingham often gets missed when new games and consoles tour.

I had a great blast playing with my friends, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe brought me back to days when we would play co-op games together in our dorm rooms.”

David Garland, travelled from Leicester with his son to try the console and said:

“The games on show were easy enough for my son to pick up and play but were also fun enough to keep me interested. The device also has a great build quality and feels like it would survive the wrath of my 7-year old.”

The event, which is now sold-out for the remainder of the tour will next weekend visit Manchester before heading to London the following weekend.

The Nintendo Switch launches on March 3rd with a price of £279.99. We’ll be live from the Birmingham launch with a live blog throughout the night.
